Climate Models
Climate models are computer programs that simulate the Earth's climate system. They use mathematical equations to represent the physical processes that occur in the atmosphere, oceans, land surface, and cryosphere. Climate models are used to make projections of future climate change under different scenarios of greenhouse gas emissions and other factors that affect the climate. They are also used to study past climate change and to understand the mechanisms that drive climate variability. Climate models are constantly being improved as new data becomes available and as our understanding of the climate system evolves.
