Low
In space and astronautical engineering, 'low' refers to a low Earth orbit (LEO), which is an orbit around Earth with an altitude of 2,000 km or less. Satellites in LEO have a shorter orbital period and can provide more frequent coverage of the Earth's surface compared to satellites in higher orbits. LEO is also the preferred orbit for many space missions, including Earth observation, remote sensing, and communication. However, LEO also presents challenges such as atmospheric drag, which can cause satellites to lose altitude over time and eventually re-enter the Earth's atmosphere. To maintain their orbit, satellites in LEO may require periodic boosts from onboard propulsion systems or ground-based tracking and control.
