Vacuum
In space and astronautical engineering, vacuum refers to the absence of matter in a given space. In space, vacuum is the near-absolute absence of matter, with the remaining matter existing in very low densities. The vacuum of space presents unique challenges for space and astronautical engineers, as it can cause materials to behave differently than they would on Earth. For example, in a vacuum, there is no air resistance, which can cause objects to move differently than they would in Earth's atmosphere. Additionally, the vacuum of space can cause materials to expand or contract due to changes in temperature and pressure. Spacecraft and spacesuits must be designed to withstand the vacuum of space and protect astronauts from its effects.
