Water Reuse

Water reuse is the process of treating wastewater to make it suitable for a beneficial purpose. In the context of space and astronautical engineering, water reuse is a critical aspect of life support systems for long-duration space missions. Recycling and reusing water can significantly reduce the amount of water that needs to be transported from Earth, which is expensive and logistically challenging. Water reuse systems on spacecraft typically involve a combination of physical, chemical, and biological processes to remove contaminants and produce clean water. These systems must be highly reliable and efficient, as any failure could have serious consequences for the crew. Water reuse is also an important consideration for future space habitats, where self-sufficiency and sustainability will be key factors.
